So much to see atop the cliff. There are so many rooms and a chapel and stables and a lion’s den among many others. Though the history tells that the lion didn’t stay long because his nightime grumbling disturbed the Countess.
After coming down the stairs we sat by the sea for a while beside the tide pools. No starfish or critters, but a LOT of snails.
The locals here are so friendly and helpful. We got a good tip from our hostess /server /bartender at the hotel in Aberdeen that there is a Fish and Chips place in Stonehaven (where the castle is) that we must find where there is an ice cream shop right beside it. The staff at the castle were happy to help us on our way and what a treat it was. Nothing like it in Calgary for sure! It was the winning restaurant in the National Fish and Chip Awards in 2013. They helped us out in Beirut in ’82. Sounds like a resume builder. Very busy place and well worth the wait. And the ice cream was worth it too!
