Long ago there was a commercial that I saw, on some website with marginal and questionable content, before the days of YouTube and viral meant getting sick.
I couldn’t remember exactly whether it was a commercial or how I even found it. I think it was a site I subscribed to and I can think of it but I can’t remember what it was called.
There’s a little bit of a story to the commercial, I’ll add the link at the end. Of course it wouldn’t be 24/7 Kiyo if he didn’t have his own story about it.
It’s actually kind of hard to describe this without being in real time. Watching the commercial with Kiyoshi as both the play by play and colour analyst simultaneously was something else.
Of course it’s always after the fact that you think of it but at the end of his running commentary I thought damn we should have taped it. Because we were born in a time where that’s what you called it when you were recording video. Tape it what the hell does tape it mean to kids nowadays. It would have involved using this relic called VHS, we had long moved beyond Super 8 but not long before Betamax. Nowadays “Super 8” is a movie.
We happened upon a shirt in our travels that we laugh about every now and then. It was at the David & Goliath Stupid Factory in Maui at Whalers Village. The graphic on the shirt was of a spoon and a fork and it said “Spooning leads to forking” and to a young xxxxx (soon to be future cousin of Kiyoshi’s) it didn’t make a lot of sense.
And now today on a different day there is WaterBoy in the Evian commercial going through his transformations and phases (it’s very scientific) before he meets a WaterGirl. Well.
This is the hard part to explain, you just have to watch the video you’ll know what I’m talking about. In hockey speak you might say something like taking a pass moving into the slot. Uh wait no that’s offside.
So there he was so proud to describe it.
“Look everyone they are hugging, and now they’re kissing, and …. doing other stuff……”
and then suddenly there are many WaterBoys and Girls.
“and now there’s lots more!”
….. doing other stuff….. what does that mean to a 7 year old.
